kerrySecretary of State John Kerry said that Israeli settlements in the occupied territories are “illegitimate” and not helpful to ongoing efforts for peace between Palestine and Israel.

Kerry’s comments today came after he met Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, in Bais Lechem.

“Let me emphasize that the position of the United States is that we consider now, and have always considered, the settlements to be illegitimate,” he said.

He added that there was no deal that the Palestinians recognized the illegal settlements in return for peace.

“I want to make it extremely clear that at no time did the Palestinians in any way agree, as a matter of going back to the talks, that they could somehow condone or accept the settlements,” he said.

Al Jazeera’s Mike Hanna, in Yerushalayim, said Kerry’s statement was strong for a US politician. “In the past the phrase has been that the Israeli settlements are ‘not helpful’,” he said.

Kerry also announced that the US would provide $75 million to aid the Palestinian economy.

  1. Dear Mr. Netanyahooo,

John Kerry and Broke Obama are not friends of Israel. When are you going to wake up? Throw the bums out and don’t let them back into Israel.

You could learn a thing or two from the Deputy Speaker of the Knesset.

Stop being so stubborn and listen to your fellow Likud Members.

    Sincerely,

    The Commish
A Yid worried about the lives of other Yidden in Eretz Yisroel.

  2. Here we go again with their “illegitimate” fahrkrumteh moral equivalency……

It perfectly obvious that Abbas and his ilk simply want the “occupied territories” (as liberal media calls them) to be the next “Judenrein”

  3. Who is Kerry or Obama to say that Yehuda and Shomron are illegitimate. I guess so is Mexico and other states. Maybe they should review the Oslo papers which they think is the best. They might see that there is also no palestinian people and that the “settlements” are perfectl legal. Why do we expect different from Hussein Obama? He can not even deal with running his own country.

  4. Well, Kerry may have a position, but it is not true to Jewish Development and his place to make this comment is not entirely on the side of true liberty.

  5. I think Kerry is illegitimate;also Mahmoud Abbas is illegitimate. So would all these illegitimates start looking at themselves and not at hashems legitimate nation and land. THANX, knew you’ d understand.

  6. This is the result of all the Israeli’s gestures. They have to have the guts to stand any pressure. But if they don’t understand, if they don’t have the right and strong belief why they are there, unfortunately they are vulnerable to pressures.

  7. Mr.Kerry, you are not G-d, UHussein Obama is not G-d, so be quiet and eat your Heinz ketchup.
PM Netanyahu – be a mentsch. You and the Israeli government and the fat-cat CEOs are foundering,

  8. It would be helpful for Kerry to learn the history of the “occupied territories” from the current era beginning with the Balfour Declaration, that it was designated as part of the Jewish homeland and nothing since then has changed its status. There is nothing to justify Kerry calling it occupied territories.
