kerry2The Obama administration opened a new front in its lobbying campaign for the Iran nuclear deal Wednesday, meeting face-to-face with officials from prominent Jewish organizations that have expressed strong reservations.

Secretary of State John Kerry met privately at the State Department with representatives of the powerful American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the Anti-Defamation League and the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.

The ADL earlier said there are “many unanswered questions” because Iran “simply cannot be trusted.” Before the meeting, AIPAC was also skeptical, saying the deal would leave Iran as a “threshold nuclear state.”

Meanwhile, legislation pushed by Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) to force congressional approval of any eventual Iran deal was approaching a veto-proof majority.
