The kever of Nochum Hanovi outside the Islamic State bastion of Mosul in Iraq is in desperate need of repairs or it may collapse within months, i24 News reports.

The 1,500-year-old kever, located in the town of Alqosh some 30 miles north of Mosul, is under the protection of Kurdish Peshmerga forces.

Sherzad Omer, representative of Kurdish Jews in the Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs at Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), said on Monday that his team “investigated the structure of the building, consulting experts, engineers and architects, and they report the building could completely fall apart within a couple of months.”

Omer has asked the United Nations and UNESCO, as well as other historical preservation organizations to help restore the building.

  1. Can Matzav please inform us how we can help?
    Donations?
    Calls or Letters to UN/Government?
This is unnacceptable that one of the Neviim of Kof Daled Sifrei Tanach should be like this! I hate to say this, but if this was the kever of a Chassideshe Rebbe, ZYA, this would be solved overnight.
    We must act!

  2. he is found in Sefer Trei Asar of neviyim & was a navi of Klal Yisroel.

why is he not buried in Eretz Yisroel like most of them are is a mystery to me

  3. Dear Sirs you think Iraq is going to let a bunch of Jews into a war torn Iraq to fix a building no matter who says it is okay???? Keep on dreaming and how safe would it be, here are enemies of an Iraq government with building equipment to fix a building, and do you think when the Jews leave they will bomb the building so it is really destroyed.
Better it fall by itself and when it is safe to go into Iraq then fix it later and then to be used, how many Jews are in Iraq using this facility now and is it worth human life at this time?
