Rep.-elect Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) inched closer to becoming speaker of the House today, as progress on a deal hashing out the rules of the 118th Congress proved enough to flip some of the 20 GOP holdouts into his corner.

However, the Bakersfield lawmaker still fell short of the magic number of 217 votes needed to wield the gavel on the 12th ballot, as a hard core of the so-called “Never Kevins” held firm once again.

On a conference call Friday morning McCarthy confirmed that he was “willing” to change the House’s rules to allow a single member to make a so-called “motion to vacate,” which would trigger a vote on removing the speaker. (NY Post)

  1. Wow. This is so exciting. Better than any TV series. I just can’t wait to find out what happens next. Please keep us informed as soon as Shabbos is over.
In other news our Southern border is wide open and our country is being overrun by illegal foreigners who have not sworn to uphold the constitution. Alejandro Mayorkas is a poison.
