On Wednesday, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei described the West Bank as a “major battleground for Palestinian factions against Israel.”
Khamenei’s statement indicates growing Iranian support for Hamas and Iran-backed Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terror groups’ efforts to increase their presence in the West Bank.
Khamenei’s remarks followed his meeting with PIJ leader Ziyad al-Nakhalah in Tehran, during which he congratulated the terror group on its latest campaign against Israel. “The enemy’s (Israel) inaction today shows that the resistance factions know the right path,” he said.
He further emphasized that “the strength and capability of the Palestinian resistance and Islamic Jihad factions are increasing day by day,” and stressed the need to “continue on this path.”
