rav-yehudah-bakstIn a special display of unity, Yeshiva Gedolah Ateres Mordechai of Detroit, led by its rosh yeshiva, Rav Yehudah Bakst, joined with local schools, Akiva, Beth Yehudah and Darchei Torah, and other rabbonim in encouraging the entire frum community to attend a parlor meeting last night to benefit the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.

According to longtime askan Mr. Gary Torgow, who hosted the event in his home, the local Jewish Federation has fell upon hard times due to the current economic situation, and it is a great kiddush Hashem to show the wider Jewish community that we, the Torah community, care.

The Jewish Federation in the past has aided frum institutions in the greater Detroit area in many ways and now the frum community had the opportunity to join together to show the organization the hakoras hatov it deserves.

In a notable move, the leadership of Agudas Yisroel of America instructed Executive Vice President Rabbi Chaim Dovid Zwiebel to attend and address the parlor meeting, to show support and recognition for all the good that the Jewish Federation does.

Hundreds of people attended the event and much needed funds were raised.

  1. To CHAP: This was a typical example of Detroit’s warm unity.

The Federation (BTW, should be “has fallen”) can and should take great nachas in the incredible investment they have made in our kids over the years. Many come back and build families here, which should be dayeinu with the shrinking demographics (not just in the observant community) but are meaningfully contributing in ways that benefit the entire city.

And maybe you don’t know Reb Yudi, shlit”a or Mr. Torgow, shlit”a but the former is true daas Torah and the latter doesn’t move without it.

  2. before you post next time please look into the facts first (chap). Daas Torah knows Reb Moishe’s Teshuva but they have more information on the situation in detroit and paskend that everyone should go. Instead of calling yourself chap call your self kanoi!!

  3. The headline is misleading it might have been a nicr gesture of hakoras hatov but to call it a kiddush hashem it minimises what a trfue kiddush hashem is

  4. Did anyone think that maybe CHAP was commenting on the headline right before this one which announced the petira of an ADAM GADOL,and by mistake posted it here.

  5. Out of town community just got it together. They can and will stand united for Jewish causes whether in Baltimore, Detroit, Milwaukee and others, KOL HAKAVOD.

  6. I still have kids in the schools and do have hakaras hatov. And lots of kavana when I say the Yekum Purkans; there are many people I respect here who deserve it.
