KILAYIM? Japan Approves First Animal-Human Hybrid Research Of Its Kind

The Japanese government gave permission last week to a group of scientists to conduct stem-cell experiments in order to grow human organs in animals for the first study of its kind in the Far East country, reports said.

According to Japan’s Asahi Shimbun newspaper, Japan’s science ministry approved a proposal by scientists at the University of Tokyo to create a human pancreas in rodents using human induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells.

The controversial animal-human hybrid research is expected to receive its final approval from the ministry next month, reported British scientific journal Nature.
