Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) says that English should not be the official language of the U.S., a reversal from a vote she cast more than a decade ago.

At a campaign event in Las Vegas on Friday, Klobuchar said she has now “taken a strong position against” the English-language amendment, which she voted for in 2007, according to The Associated Press.

Her shift on the issue comes a week before the Democratic caucuses in Nevada, which has a significant Latino population and where she polls at about 10 percent support.

“I think that when you look at a state like this state, and a country like ours that is so diverse, you don’t want to have that provision in law because then it would be very difficult to have, say, government documents and other things translated into other languages,” she said Friday, according to the AP. “So that is not a position I take. I did vote that way, but way back then, along with many other people.”

  1. These Lev-aruls (liberals) are bending over backward to see who could come up with the next dumb idea. I’m surprised she didn’t say Spanish should be the official language.

  2. That is not a very intelligent statement. She doesn’t say what should replace if anything.

An official language unifies a country. Many millions of people came to this country from all over the world and they learned English.

    This is pure pandering.

    Shame on her.

  3. The cold temperature in Minnesota has clearly frozen her brains, assuming she had some at one point in her life. Every Nation has an official language. What she’s attempting to do is turn America into a 3rd world country. A very dangerous lady. Thank G-d this ditz will never be POTUS.

  4. seriously!? who doesn’t have an official language?! what will replace English? and how can you force billions to learn a new language now just because you want a minorities vote, it is easier to have them learn English a language that helps them in most of the entire world as apposed to have everyone else learn something else that will not be useful to them in many other countries.
I am quite amused, this is the most ridiculous thing i heard in election campaigns… better pray no one takes her seriously, i fr one do not want to change my language and while this may give her minorities support i hope majority turns against her and she crashes now.

  5. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) says that English should not be the official language of the U.S.,
AND SHE SHOULD NOT BE THE OFFICIAL REPRESENTATIVE OF THE UNITED STATES.
