MK Robert Ilatov of Yisroel Beiteinu submitted a bill that would outlaw the public display of flags and emblems of terror groups and enemy countries. Violators would be fined $63,000 or imprisoned for up to five years.
Noting that Hamas and ISIS flags are displayed “on a daily basis under the pretense of free speech,” the bill argued that “the state has a basic right to preserve its freedom and its very existence in the face of foreign enemies and those who support them from within.”
A similar law was tabled in 2014, part of a package of anti-terror laws following a wave of terror attacks that killed eleven people in the Yerushalayim area.
