On Sunday, November 16 the Kollel of Houston held a milestone Chanukas Habayis & Hachnasas Sefer Torah dedicated by the Serotta family. The kavod hatorah & excitement were palpable with hundreds of people attending the event.

Many rabbanim & Roshei Yeshiva were in attendance. Special guests included, Harav Malkiel Kotler Shlit”a, Rosh Hayeshiva BMG, Harav Yaakov Bender, Rosh Hayeshiva Darchei Torah, Harav Michoel Bender, Yeshivas Bais Binyomin, Harav Menachem Zupnik, Rov of BTU Passaic, R’ Aharon Kotler, CEO BMG and R’ Sroy Levitansky, Community Development BMG.

From 2010 until November 2019, the Kollel was graciously hosted by Young Israel of Houston. As the community grew by leaps and bounds, the need for a new building became apparent. The state-of-the-art new building affords the Kollel its own space while maintaining the synergy generated by sharing premises with Young Israel. Houston is one of the fastest growing mikomos hatorah in the country. This past summer alone, approximately 30 new families moved to the community. The community has doubled in size since the founding of the Kollel nine years ago under the guidance of Bais Medrash Govoha, local Rabbanim & lay leaders. The Kollel is led by its Rosh Kollel, Harav Shlomo Littman and Rosh Chabura, Harav Yehuda Eisenstein.

  1. Glad to see frums in Texas. I visited there in 1966/8& not much going on. Had a good corned beef sandwich that about it. The weather was nice. I walked on a sidewalk and said hello to someone.

  2. Although not reflected in your headline or article, the Chanukah Habayis was also for the shul not just the kollel, and the celebration began on shabbos as the shul hosted HaRav Akiva Grunblatt shlita. (As you see in your last pictures.)

  3. Although your headline and content neglect to mention, the chanukas habayis was for the shul as well and the celebrations began Shabbos as the shul hosted HaRav Akiv Grunblatt shlita, Rosh HaYeshiva of Chofetz Chaim (RSA) whose presence you failed to acknowledge (Although you did include his picture at the end). Please make sure your future reporting is more inclusive and comprehensive. Kavod HaTorah and accuracy are extremely important. Thank you.
