No, they’re not adding a lower level to the Brooklyn Bridge. The span of the Kosciuszko Bridge barged its way below the iconic crossing Wednesday, ahead of a state demolition effort that will recycle its 26 million pounds of steel, THE NEW YORK POST reports.

The Kosciuszko Bridge, which had carried the BQE between Brooklyn and Queens since 1939, was replaced by a $550 million crossing that opened in April. Construction on a second, companion viaduct is set to wrap up in 2020.

The state plans to blow up the bridge’s remaining support ramps in August — though it has not set a date for the explosive finale, according to Gov. Cuomo’s office. Read more at THE NEW YORK POST.
