rav-moshe-shternbuchA company selling a grama switch for Shabbos is claiming an endorsement from Rav Moshe Sternbuch, rosh av bais din of the Eidah Hachareidis and one of the senior poskim in Eretz Yisroel.

Kosherswitch states: “HaGaon R’ Moishe Sternbuch shlit’aChief Rabbi/Ra’avad of the Eidah HaChareidis Yerushalayim. “Not gramma, better than gramma; Brocha that you should get the good to stay good, and get the bad to become good!” (1/5/2010 at his home).”

The Daat Torah website received the following statement from Rav Sternbuch’s gabbai:

I asked the Rav about this, he told me that he was asked about it, he wrote a letter via Rabbi Sigler on the issue, the Rav holds that it is not only chilul shaboss, but ‘akiras shaboss’ to use this switch, the rav asked for his opinion to be publicized since he has been asked recently about this from numerous sources.”

  1. i just checked their website and they have a list of poskim giving haskomos ( including R’ Sterbuch shlit”a). Is there any way of verifying if the haskomos are ligit?

  2. Why are you calling it a “gramma switch” when the gedolei haposkim quoted on their site specifically say it is not?

(Whether there’s an issue of zilzul Shabbos or uvda d’chol is another matter. But gramma it’s not, according to the explicit psak of several Rabbanim who are quoted there.)

  3. It is uncklear if ANY rabbanim allowed this for home use. Rav Belsky did NOT. Rav Harfenes did NOT. Rav S. B. Cohen (whose name they finally removed did NOT. In fact, they specifcally forbid it.

Rav Harfenes and Rav Cohen allowed it in health care settings, but they mislead you by listing them, although they have a disclaimer that not all teh hetterim are for home use or lechatchilah.

They are trying to mislead the public and people should call teh number and let them know they will not be fooled and that that they are muchtzafim and machshilim es harabbim.

  4. I agree that their site is extremely misleading, as it includes names who never approved of l’chatchill use.

However, there are poskin there who DO approve of it l’chatchilla.

They should have stuck with those and not dragged in others who have not approved its l’chatchilla usage.
