Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, NJ, America’s largest yeshiva, which traditionally has lengthy Hakafos on Simchas Torah, will be shortening its Hakafos and dividing them among four of its botei medrash in order to ensure smaller crowds in light of the current Covid-19 circumstances.

Locals have also been asked to daven in their regularly shuls rather than going to the yeshiva for Hakafos.

Furthermore, in a letter, various Lakewood rabbonim have advised that shuls keep their Hakafos to no more than 5 minutes in length.

    • I wasn’t in BMG so I don’t know the answer to your question, but you should know that these guidelines were not published by BMG, rather Lakewood Poskim recommended them and BMG is not bound by them.

  1. This subject is long overdue, regardless of corona. How about doing as brought in Mishna Berura: 3 or 7 times around the bima – not 100 times. Kol hakovod to someone who feels like dancing the whole Yom Tov, but do it after davening is over – on your own time, without holding the entire tsibur hostage. A Simcha is not a matter of quantity, but of quality!
