lakewood-chederThe Lakewood Cheder and Bais Faiga schools in Lakewood, NJ, have announced the closure of registration for their primary classes for the 2010-11 school year. A record number of applications – about 250 for each school, totaling over 500 – were received.

“This attests to the confidence that parents and the kehillah at large have in the chinuch that the Cheder and Bais Faiga have provided for 44 years,” Rabbi Yosef Posen, Director of the Lakewood Cheder. “We are humbled by the chizuk the community has shown and we look forward for each child to succeed in his years in the Cheder.”

  1. “This attests to the confidence that parents and the kehillah at large have in the chinuch that the Cheder and Bais Faiga have provided for 44 years,”
How about This attests to the growth of the community? and I bet you next year will have even more!

  2. Wonderful. Just beautiful. How about a report on how many of those people were turned away and now have no where to sen their child next year?

  3. Yitz! Why do we always need to hear the negative aspects of a story ? leave what is good good. The Cheder does so much for all the children in their care. Yasher Koach.

  4. Yitz – what do you propose? That the Cheder open 12 parallel primary classes next year? The Cheder WILL NOT take more than 25 boys per class, which is an excellent policy. Based on numbers alone, there WILL be people turned away. Don’t just sit and blame the cheder – they’re already up to 8 or 9 parallel classes. Let another school open another parallel class, or open a new school yourself.

  5. To 8 and 10,
I agree that the problem is not just a problem of the Cheder and Bais Faiga but rather a communal problem. However, touting themselves as the community mosdos means that they need to help solve the community wide problem of too many children entering the system for the amount of classes to handle.
What is the point of saying how many applications you had this year? Are we supposed to cheer for them that they had so many more applicants than last year? All that means is that if they don’t add any classes they will be turning away more people than they ever did before. Is that reason to stand up and cheer? It means that they are not working to solve the problem.

  6. I have one question to all the people posting from lakewood? aren’t you not allowed to have the internet in lakewood??

  7. Yitz! you complain “However, touting themselves as the community mosdos” Funny but they do not. Maybe read the article before synically commenting. and for the fact that this “means that they need to help solve the community wide problem of too many children entering the system for the amount of classes to handle.” Why don’t you start solving this issue? Isn’t this all of our achrayus? why start up with a mossad that solves this prob. for 600 families per year?

  8. Dear #12 No In Lakewood the Rabbonim said that all Yidden should not have Internet. Unless you need it for buissness. Yoou are n ot any different!

  9. The number is closer to 200 sibs and youre right counting the siblings they solved the problem for 2000 children… just a matter of perspective.
