Lakewood Police Seize Nearly 400 Bags of Heroin in 2 Arrests

Two lengthy investigations by Lakewood Township’s Street Crimes Unit have resulted in police seizing 386 bags of heroin. One of the men arrested is Lamont Scales, 32, of Parker Street in Freehold, who was arrested last year during an Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office raid that turned up 550 bags of heroin on Alamitos Drive. On Shabbos afternoon, Scales – who is awaiting trial on charges relating to his earlier arrest – was taken into custody on Airport Road, Lakewood Police Detective Steve Wexler said. Police said theyconfiscated 166 bags of heroin, more than $2,000 in cash as well as Scales’s 2000 Mercedes.Scales was being held at the Ocean County Jail in Toms River in lieu of $500,000 bail. He is charged with possession of more than a half-ounce of heroin and possession with the intent to distribute.

The arrest was made by Lakewood Street Crimes Unit members Detective Sgt. John Stillwell, Detective Robert Humaney and Patrolmen Leroy Marshall and Jason Pederson. That same group of officers seized 220 bags of heroin eight days earlier when they arrested Quezie A. Clark, 34, of Delaware Trail, police said.

Clark, the subject of a month-long investigation, was arrested at about 7:45 p.m. on Feb. 27 and found to be in possession of 220 bags of heroin and $1,600 cash, police said. Police also seized his 2004 Nissan Maxima, Wexler said.

Clark was being held in lieu of $60,000 cash bail at the county jail and faces charges of possession of more than a half-ounce of heroin and possession with intent to distribute within a school zone.
