lakewood-board-of-edLakewood, NJ – The Board of Ed elections are taking place today in Lakewood, as as eleven candidates – including eight frum Yidden – vie for three seats on the nine-member school board.

The candidates are Boruch Blaustein, Boruch Mandel, Yisrael Friedman, Zecharia Greenspan, Bill Hobday, Shuie Schmuckler, Larry Avrin, Larry Loigman, Avraham Ostreicher, Yisroel Rosenthal and Tracey Tift.

Tift and Ostreicher are current members seeking reelection. Board member Ada Gonzalez is not seeking reelection.

Sh0rtly before Yom Tov, Almost two dozen heads of local mosdos issued endorsements of Yisrael Friedman, Zecharia Greenspan and Tracey Tift. The four roshei yeshiva of Beth Medrash Govoha, Rav Malkiel Kotler, Rav Dovid Schustal, Rav Yeruchem Olshin and Rav Yisroel Neuman, have signed a letter encouraging people to follow those endorsements. Voters will also be deciding on the school district tax levy of $71,231,078, a 3.40% reduction over last year’s budget.

Polls will be open between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m.
