In a new alert issued by Lakewood’s Shatnez testers, a woolen suit from the men’s brand Alesso was found to contain shatnez.

The suit, which is produced and sold by a Jewish-owned company, has sparked concern.

The discovery is significant because the fabric in question, which contains both wool and linen, qualifies as shatnez even if found in a suit made of polyester or other materials.

This revelation follows reports from shoppers who were assured by salespeople that the suit did not contain shatnez, highlighting the need for vigilance when purchasing clothing, particularly from Jewish-owned stores.

The alert serves as a reminder to the community that shatnez testing is an essential step before wearing any woolen or linen garment, and shoppers are urged to verify that all purchased clothing has been properly tested.

  1. It seems to me that when you buy from a Jewish store, especially one which claims to also be the manufacturer, the onus is on the store to have suits checked as required by Shatnez technicians and experts. Why am I wrong?

    • They spot check, or they explicitly tell their Chinese (or similar country) manufacturers not to put in any linen. The reality is though, that occasionally during production the company may use substitution without ever telling those who hired them.

  2. Would you please publish who is the posek (or poskim) behind the psak that “shatnez testing is an essential step before wearing any woolen or linen garment”?

  3. In 2003, a study was done by a Jewish doctor, Heidi Yellen, on the frequencies of fabric. According to this study, the human body has a signature frequency of 100, and organic cotton is the same – 100.

The study showed that if the number is lower than 100, it puts a strain on the body. A diseased, nearly dead person has a frequency of about 15, and that is where polyester, rayon, and silk register. Nonorganic cotton registers a signature frequency of about 70.

However, if the fabric has a higher frequency, it gives energy to the body. This is where linen comes in as a super-fabric. Its frequency is 5,000.

Wool is also 5,000, but when mixed together with linen, the frequencies cancel each other out and fall to zero. Even wearing a wool sweater on top of a linen outfit in a study collapsed the electrical field. The reason for this could be that the energy field of wool flows from left to right, while that of linen flows in the opposite direction, from right to left.
