Kann Chadashot revealed that instead of receiving dignitaries at a giant Foreign Ministry complex in a Ramat Gan building, Foreign Minister Yair Lapid prefers to meet them at luxury hotels at state expense or at his party headquarters.

The unused office space is costing the Israeli public $300,000 in rent a year.

Lapid admitted that the Tel Aviv offices “are superfluous” and should be closed. “I don’t need them,” he said. “I don’t need to put on a show of luxury for people. A table and three chairs around it are enough.”

He did not explain why the office has not been closed, nor why some diplomats are hosted at top hotels.
