Last night, Rebbetzin Rochel Segal a”h, a granddaughter of the Alter of Novardok, Rav Yosef Yoizel Horowitz zt”l, was nifteres in Yerushalayim at the age of 101. The wife of Rav Meir Segal zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Novardok, the Rebbetzin, who lived in Bayit Vegan, leaves behind over 500 descendants. The levaya was held this morning on Rechov Shamgar in Yerushalayim.
Rebbetzin Segal knew her illustrious zaide and was zoche to spend time with him and observe him. The Alter was niftar in December 1919 when the Rebbetzin was about 11 years old.
The Rebbetzin is survived by her children, Rav Yosef Segal, Rav Shmuel Segal, Rav Dovid Segal, Mrs. Rivka Shapira and Mrs. Esther Eitan. She was predeceased by three daughters, Mrs. Chana Sorotzkin a”h, Mrs. Miriam Haller a”h, and Mrs. Leah Rachberger a”h.
May she be a melitza yosher for her mishpacha.

Rav Eliezer Sorotzkin of P’eylim / Lev L’Achim is just one of her illustrious grandchildren. One can only imagine the tremendous zchusim this isha chashuva has in the Olom HaEmes. May she be a meiletzes yosher for all of Klal Yisroel!

I am a relative and know that my great aunt (the nifteres) was actually 113 years old.
Also worth mentioning is the her father was Rav Rueven Silver Z”TL most choshuv of the alters son in laws and that she is a direct decendant of the Vilna Goan

Razel Faskowitz is Reb Avrohom Yafen’s daughter. The Daughter of Sarah Yafen the third Daughter of the Alter Zt”l. Your great aunt is her cousin and my first cousin once removed.

according to the records we have from Bialostok.
Number three: I remember Reb Reuvan Silver well.
He lived the last years of his life in the Yeshiva of Beis Yosef in Boro Park. He was a Adam Choshuv but he had pretty great Brothers in law, Ren Alter Shmulevitz, Reb Avrohom Yafen and Reb Yisroel Yaakov Dubchansky mashgiach in Baranovitch.
Incidently there is one more grandchild of the Alter who is still alive.
She is the Daughter of The Alter’s son, Chaim, and her name is Pearl Nevis. She lives in Manhatten and in well into her nineties
I am looking to find out the names of the Alter’s sons. I suspect that my zeide is an einikle of one of them.
