f-16In a dangerous move, and one that is reflective of the mindset of the leftist segment of Israeli society, several hundred Israelis have recently signed an online petition calling on IDF pilots to refuse to obey if they are ordered to bomb Iran.

The petition calls a decision by the government to launch a strike against Iran a “highly mistaken gamble” that would only delay Iran’s nuclear program, without halting it, and would come “at an exorbitant price.” Among the signatories are  Tel Aviv University law professors Menachem Mautner and Chaim Gans.

“Certainly, this is not a simple option,” the petition states. “It involves profound professional and moral dilemmas, and carries the risk of losing a career which is important to you and also the possibility of being prosecuted. Nevertheless, it is your duty to consider most carefully and seriously the possibility that by saying the little word ‘No,’ you will be rendering an important and vital service to the State of Israel and all who live here. This service would be infinitely more important than blind obedience to this particular order.”

  1. o they would rather that they sit on their hands & let the Iranians nuke Israel off the map r”l! These nut cases must be grandchildren on Neville Chamberlain!

  2. They literally WANT Israel destroyed, no less than the Ayatollahs!! They should be treated no different from them!

  3. Fact: Many of the “student organizers” during the Vietnam War (quite a few who were in their 30’s and 40’s) were hired by the KGB/Russian Govt. to rile up opposition against the war, here in the U.S.
    Unfortunately, they were quite successful.

One must wonder who is organizing the current opposition to self-defense amongst our brethren…

  4. I do’t get it. It’s OK for a settler soldier to disobey orders, but not for a chiloni pilot? Whether you get to choose depends on whether your parents’ home is outside the green line? Either everybody obeys or no one has too. An army is an army, not a vacation resort. Either demand that right-wingers also obey orders unconditionally, or lay off the chilonim.

By the way, in this case the left wing is actually right. Starting a war with Iran would lead to mass casualties – dead, crippled and wounded – and massive damage to population centers and industry. Plus, the international community would not rush to help with humanitarian aid if we’re the ones who start it. (They would be slow to help anyway, but this gives them a great – and valid – reason.) So who would foot the bill? You and me, in the Galus that Bibi’s folks love to paint as “not good enough” Jews because we live chutz.

Put Bibi in a plane and send him to get shot down. Or don’t let him into his bomb shelter. Make him stand in the middle of Kikar Tzion while the bombs are falling. If his own neck is at risk he won’t be so eager to start a war.

  5. Not being a military expernt it looks to me as if the worst that could happen is a balance of horror. Bibi may be crazy but Iran is not. Such a balance of horrror did bring peace to Europe and why should this sort of peace be a bad thing in the ME?

Disobediance of the Army did save Tunesia and Egypt during that Arab spring. It is not the same to start a war against the politicians will, this is the most important case, and not to start against politicians orders and wars of self-defense and wars of aggression are not the same. Well, there is also premptiv self-defense, but you may get the idea…
