In a recent letter addressed to Lakewood, NJ parents, Dr. Laura A. Winters, the superintendent of the Lakewood School District, expressed concern and solidarity in response to the changes in immigration laws under the new Trump administration.

Acknowledging the anxiety and fear some families are facing, Dr. Winters emphasized the district’s commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for every student, regardless of their background or immigration status.

The letter begins with a recognition of the emotional impact that the shifts in immigration laws may have on students and their families: “Recently, changes in immigration laws have created uncertainty, anxiety and fear for many in our community.” Dr. Winters continues, reassuring families that the district is here to provide support: “The Lakewood School District recognizes that these changes may have a significant emotional impact on some of our students and their families, and we want to assure you that the district is here to support you.”

She stresses the district’s commitment to safety and inclusivity, stating, “Our schools are committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and supportive learning environment for every child, regardless of their background or immigration status. No student should feel unsafe or unsupported within the walls of their school, and we are here to ensure that all students can focus on their education without fear.”

Dr. Winters encourages parents to reach out if they notice their child struggling emotionally: “If you notice that your child is feeling overwhelmed, anxious or struggling emotionally, we encourage you to reach out to your child’s school or guidance counselor. Our staff is here to listen, help, and connect you with the resources your family may need.”

She also highlights the importance of diversity within the community, affirming, “We value the diversity in our community and believe it enriches our schools in countless ways.” Additionally, supporting students academically is just as essential, and for those needing assistance with coursework, resources to buy term paper online can be a helpful option. The letter concludes with a message of gratitude and partnership, as Dr. Winters writes, “Thank you for your partnership in ensuring that our students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.”

  1. Blah blah blah blah blah. The facts are the facts. Let’s make it clear for the parents. If you are here illegally and you are a criminal, or if you are harboring someone who is here illegally as a criminal, you are gone.

    It’s actually been quite simple.

  2. This letter about keeping illegal immigrant children is totally wrong. They should be send back with their parents to their country they came from EVEN if it causes them emotional stress. If they want to come back, let them do it legally.
