Members of the Knesset from the chareidi parties attacked Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who called for the dismissal of Chief Rabbi Rav Yitzchok Yosef following his call to enact the passage of the Override Law.

The chairman of Agudas Yisroel, Yitzchok Goldknopf, said: “I express a strong protest against the words of the Minister of Finance against Maran HaGaon Rav Yitzchok Yosef.”

He added: “The man who blasphemed and incited against an entire public will not limit the freedom of expression of others and certainly not of a rabbi in Israel. I remind Mr. Lieberman that the elections are already over. In the few days that you have left in the Ministry of Finance, try to minimize the damage you caused in your short tenure instead of provoking unnecessary provocations.”

In his weekly shiur last night, Rav Yosef said that “there needs to be an Override Clause, like what is being done now, a law [that says that] there is no such thing as the High Court deciding.”

Rav Yosef made the comment after stating that Israel’s court system was withholding appointments of neighborhood rabbis due to the Reform and Conservative movement’s demand for equal representation. The Override Clause would enable the Knesset to override decisions made by the High Court. The Religious Zionist Party and United Torah Judaism demanded the inclusion of the clause in coalition agreements between their parties and the Likud.

“There was never a government with 32 Orthodox and chareidi members of Knesset as this [incoming] government, ever,” Rav Yosef said. “Who knows? Maybe there is an opportunity to fix the ‘Who is a Jew’ law,” he said, concluding that “things need to be fixed and now this is an opportunity to do so.”

MK Yoav Ben Tzur of Shas said: “In the face of Lieberman’s devious actions to destroy the foundations of Judaism and destroy them, Maran Rav Yitzchok Yosef continues in his father’s footsteps, standing as a wall in a fearless and fearless way to guard Judaism and the tradition of Israel and a leader of millions of Jews in every corner of the world.”

MK Uriel Bussu from Shas said, “Lieberman should be reminded that sometimes the wheelbarrows travel in reverse. In the meantime, the public fired Lieberman and this failed government.”

  1. Even King Charles III comprehends how to extend כבוד to a Chief Rabbi, which clearly is way beyond the capacity of wicked lieberman
