Yisrael Beiteinu Party leader Avigdor Lieberman urged Israelis on Monday to flout government coronavirus directives and rely on “common sense” instead.

During a meeting on Monday morning of his party’s Knesset faction, widely reported in the Hebrew press, Lieberman accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of “sacrificing public health at the altar of coalition-preservation.”

Thus, stated Lieberman, “all decisions taken [by this government] are clearly illegal.”

Lieberman, a long-time rival of Netanyahu’s whose party is not a member of the coalition, expressed these sentiments following the government’s decision on Sunday night to impose night curfews and school closures on “red” cities—those determined by the Health Ministry and Coronavirus Project Coordinator Ronni Gamzu. This was a reversal from the previous decision to impose complete lockdowns on those areas, most of which have ultra-Orthodox or Arab majorities. Lieberman claimed that the shift was due to Netanyahu’s caving to political pressure from the former.

“The government has lost public trust and it does not deserve it, so the way to deal with the problem at the moment is through local government,” Lieberman reportedly told his faction.

Health Minister Yuli Edelstein responded by saying: “Lieberman is acting carelessly and irresponsibly, while taking advantage of a fragile health and economic situation.”

    • Depends if you want to catch the virus or if you want to safeguard your health.
If at 5am you are the only one on the street, did you never smell that someone was smoking on their balcony, at their window, or even inside their apartment? Same thing with the virus, except that it is spread with normal breathing, and it’s not noticeable. Surely there are people sleeping and breathing all along the block, aren’t there?
I know, we all wish this virus hadn’t been allowed to spread. But it’s not helpful to pretend it’s not there.

  1. Okay. I am not a Lieberman fan, to say the least, but I’m with him on this one.

Not that the government’s actions are illegal. They are 100% legal. They are also 100% stupid, with no basis in either science or common sense. The only reason there’s a curfew is that Gamzu couldn’t face the humiliation of total capitulation, so he backed down from total lockdown and moved to curfew.

  2. According to the article, it’s anything but flaunt. What “fragile health” is Edelstein talking about when according to many doctors in Israel the covid hoax is nothing more than the “shapat (the flu)”?

  3. Every time someone in Shul sneezes or clears his throat, the fear mongerers go nuts. It must be Corona. Yeh, that’s it. It’s definitely Covid 19. This guy is a rodef and rotziach and must be kicked out. And then we wonder why the Bais Hamikdash wasn’t rebuilt. The sinas chinam coming from the mask wearing slaves is frightening.

    • You are correct, we are slaves. We are ovdei Hashem. Torah says to safeguard our health, and specifically, that during an epidemic we stay at home and if we must go out, we wear masks.

thank you for explaining so eloquently the difference between us and you
