Deputy Health Minister MK Yaakov Litzman said at a conference on Tuesday evening that coalition negotiations with the Likud were still ongoing.

“We have not yet finished as of this evening with the principle issues, such as enlistment, Shabbos, and education and I am not even talking about money. We are in the midst of the negotiations. We will approve the text of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah, we will not approve anything else, both on the issue of Shabbos and on education,” said Litzman, according to the Bechadrei Charedim news website.

He stressed that there is no crisis with the Likud, but also made clear that Yahadut HaTorah is not afraid of going to elections.

“I know that there are people who are upset, but we do only what the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah says. If the rabbonim are not satisfied, we are not afraid to go to elections. There is no crisis, but we are negotiating and we have to be careful not to talk about it too much.”

  1. “not afraid to go to elections.”

What about 4 years in the opposition with Lapid calling the shots for 2 years?

  2. He should be. Getting eight seats by the skin of our teeth was incredible and took tremendous effort. A re-election may not provide voters with a day off work, so fewer people will show, and people are also tired of elections, and not exactly enthusiastic…The yetzer hora is more powerful than the yetzer hatov, so there’s the risk that the secular will say to themselves that they have to prevent the country being taken over by those scary chareidim, and come out in droves.
