-Communicated-

It all began earlier this week when Rav Yitzchak Ezrachi shlit”a of the Mir released his impassioned statement to the public:

“I am seeking help, from the bottom of my soul, for my friend … one of the great Talmidei Chachamim, a long-standing pillar of our Yeshiva.”

The Rav was referring to Rabbi Mordechai Katz, a respected and beloved member of the Mirrer Yeshiva in Jerusalem. Rabbi Katz is a talmid chacham who has taught Torah to many and maintained a close relationship with the Mir roshei yeshiva throughout the years.

However, in the privacy of the Katz home, a family was living a nightmare. Rabbi Katz developed a serious medical condition, the medication for which requires a staggering 30,000 shekels a month, just to sustain his life.

“Therefore, we are extending our plea to the members of the Chabura specifically, and all of Hashem’s nation in general, to heroically rise to the occasion and assist in every way possible those who are involved in saving this poor man from his state of poverty, which constitutes as truly life-saving.”

And klal yisroel has already begun to “heroically rise up,” as members of the Mir community and beyond have begun to unite to save this talmid chacham’s life.

The campaign, however, is still nowhere near its goal. With monthly medical expenses of the equivalent of over 8,000 dollars, Rabbi Katz and his family will need much more help to continue.

Those who wish to join Rav Ezrachi will be, as the campaign puts it, “returning not only a teacher to his talmidim, but a husband and father to a family who needs him.”
