kolkorehsmall1The following kol koreh, released earlier this month, decries those who are involved in activities that are mevazeh talmidei chachomim and rabbonim. The letter, signed by three dozen rabbonim in Lakewood, including Harav Yitzchok Sorotzkin, Harav Yaakov Forchheimer, Harav Shmuel Meir Katz, Harav Shmuel Felder, Harav Simcha Bunim Cohen, Harav Asher Chaim Lieberman, Harav Berel Shachar, Harav Gavriel Finkel, Harav Dovid Heinemann, Harav Shlomo Gissinger,  Harav Menachem Mintz, Harav Yosef Zimbal, harav Moshe Rabinowitz, Harav Mordechai Bezalel Klein, Harav Nosson Stein and others, calls on people to refrain from supporting those who are mevazeh talmidei chachomim and to accord the greatest respect for our Torah leaders. After receiving numerous requests to post the kol koreh, Matzav.com presents it here:

  1. So why don’t they stop the local circulars from constantly taking pictures of the rabbonim, even when they’re asked not to, and then printing them without the rav’s approval? The rabbonim are NOT celebrities. They can’t even walk in the street with their children without some gutter press bozo shoving a camera in their faces. I have no clue why a rav walking in the street is news.
All these photos do is reduce the kavod for the rabbonim. Kids have even started to run after them with cameras. One of the roshei yeshiva had to literally run out of a recent simcha because he was ambushed and surrounded by a bunch of bar mitzvah age bochurim, who should have known better, waving cameras in his face. If they had asked politely, I’m sure he would have obliged them.

All this started with the local paparazzi’s obsession with taking pictures of the rabbonim. The rabbonim dislike having their pictures plastered all over the place. Their families cannot stand the lack of respect. It’s gotten completely and totally out of hand. The editors of these so called publications should be held accountable and called to task for their flagrant disregard for the kavod of the rabbonim.

I’m not sure this is the reason for the kol korei, but it’s definitely a problem.

  2. Sorry, you missed the point, this here is VERY SERIOUS. its not about some kids taking pictures. it’s about some who are mechallel Shem Shomaim berabim as the kol koreh states.

  3. belmamorn – yu are really missing the point this has nothing to do with the lakewood shopper . the lakewood shopper is a fine and distingushed publication . it would seem that you are jealous that your picture is no where.
maybe if you would have learnt more whn you were in yeshiva and not have gone in bus. you would habe become a talmid chochm andthen we would all see your picture also. please dont knock talmidai chocmim

  4. reagrding the situation, we need thilim and trrerin to stop this behavior. and all those invovled againt the rabbonim should leave us alone.

  5. Omer Ani Maaseh LaMelech
study this well & also Shabbos 139a with Rashi

then you may have a better understanding of the situation!

  6. look up gemara sanhedrin 26a kesher reshayim and loook up rav chaim velazin ruach chayim perek 1 mishna 10 ehav es hamelacha maybe than you will get a glimpse to what is happening here!

  7. can anyone from lakewod please fill us in with a bit more detail . not looking for names just what exactly happened that prompted this kol koreh? all that has been said so far is very very vague .

  8. Have absolutely no clue what the kol korei is addressing. Why put one out when it has no information on what specific issue is the problem?

  9. why is it that when a kol koreh comes out of lakewood regarding tzneeus it is written in a multitude of languages but this one for some reason is written hebrew and is very vague . Also ids it my imagination ? but i dont see r kotler or the mashgiachs sinatures .

  10. I do not know anything specific, but I for sure agree with them(not that they need my haskoma), that one should not mevazeh Talmei Chachomim.
I would add, that one should not Mevaza anybody for that matter.(Kol sha kein, Talmedai Chachamim).

  11. What happened is that Rabbonim paskened on something that was not done al pi halacha or al pi derech hatorah AT ALL. It is a shame that one should have to question Rabbonim or their judgment about anything, but we are in galus and there is a lot of distortion around us. If things were clearly black and white – even the decisions of gedolim – with no negios and no mistakes, this would be the time of moshiach.

  12. Daas Torah intervened and solved a problem. A few individulas let out Pashkevilen against rabbonim. The Kol Koreh addresses the sin of those who issue anonymous Pashkevilen against Daas Torah and against the Rosh Hayesivas.

  13. Dear Matzav,
You posted a proclamation from Lakewood rabbis, but it is written in the most cryptic of language. Something happened which generated this. Many rabbis signed it. The proclamation doesn’t explain itself at all. Your reporter didn’t pick up the phone and call the signators as to why such a declaration was made. Yet that’s his job. All your readers, except for a select few in the know, are confused. You’re shedding no light on this. You’re not talking. Someone posts that something bad happened and leading rabbis didn’t agree with the behavior. That helps a lot. Since noone knows what’s going onI’ll ignore the “Kol Koreh” until you decide to do your job and inform us as to what precisely triggered this outcry. Thanks.

  14. “If things were clearly black and white – even the decisions of gedolim – with no negios and no mistakes, this would be the time of moshiach.” –Lakewoodlady

“Even the decisons of gedolim, with no negios, and no mistakes.” That’s some line. Thanks, lakewoodlady. Could not agree more.

  15. SHAME ON YOU! IF YOU CHOOSE TO SIDE WITH CLEAR RESHOIM OVER RABONIM GET OUT OF LAKEWOOD WE DONT NEED YOU HERE P.S. I DON’T THINK BROOKLYN WANTS YOU EITHER, ASK YOUR HUSBAND TO EXPLAIN TO YOU THE ISSUR AND PONISHMENT OF BEING MEVAZE RABONIM/GEDOLIM. AND “YOU” WONDER WHY MOSHIACH IS NOT HERE?

  16. You are right. Let’s just accept things blindly, and not face the reality that it is possible for a human being to err in a complicated matter. Let’s pretend that they have no capacity for misinterpretation, no yetzer hora, and absolutely no negios for their own gain – be it monetary, power, or otherwise – in any situation.
It is not a mitzvah to face the world with blinders on. Be smart, be erlich, and DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. There is a lot to be learned.

  17. I WILL ACCEPT THE FIRST WORDS IN YOUR RESPONSE WHICH YOU CONCEDE THAT “YOU ARE RIGHT”, UNFORTUNETLY THEIR AFFTER YOUR YETZER HORAH GRABED HOLD OF YOU AGAIN- BTW I HAVE DONE MY “RECHEARCH” HOWEVER IT DOES NOT TAKE MUCH TO SEE AND BE MOCHE ON TERERISTS, PLEASE GET RID OF YOUR BLINDFOLDS AND RELIZE WHAT IS REALY DRIVING YOU , DO TESHUVE QUICKY, AND YOU WILL BE WECOME TO STAY IN LAKEWOOD, AND BESCHUS THAT YOU DO TESHUVA SHLAIMA MAY YOU YOU BE ZOCHE LEBONIM OSKIM B’TORAH U’BMITZVOS.

  18. “TO LAKEWOOD LADY” your response to lakewood lady also shows your naivete. Watch how this things plays out if it doesn’t prove she’s right

  19. Why didn’t Rabbonim such as: Rav Henoch Perl, Rav Shlomo Zalman Friedman, Rav Yosef Dovid Neushloss, Rav Nochom Eisenstein and of course the Rosh Yeshivas and Mashgiach and others, sign.
Is there a reason why they didnt sign or they just wern’t approached, and what is the reason for that. Please enlighten
