george-w-bushDemocrats should blame George W. Bush “forever” for the nation’s problems, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright joked at a Barack Obama campaign rally.

In video posted by a conservative group, Albright discusses traveling to a foreign policy panel event in Missouri, where a man asked her how long Democrats would continue to point the finger at the George W. Bush administration.

“I was in Missouri, speaking on behalf of President Truman and the foundation, and I kind of assumed it was a Democratic audience and I was saying many things about the previous administration, some of which I said here,” Albright said. “All of a sudden, this man gets up and says: ‘So how long are you people going to blame the previous administration?’ And I said: ‘Forever.'”

The crowd at the rally in Highlands Ranch, Colo., reacted with laughter and applause. The rally took place Wednesday.

Republicans have frequently accused the Obama administration of trying to blame the 43rd president for the nation’s economic problems. A Gallup poll conducted in June found 68 percent of Americans believe Bush deserves a great or moderate amount of blame for the economy. Only 52 percent said the same of Obama.

The video was posted by Revealing Politics, a “free-market paradigm” organization that tracks political events and candidates. The Washington Examiner first reported Albright’s comments.

While Albright says in the clip she was in Missouri speaking in her role as president of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation, a spokeswoman for the former secretary of state said that while the event took place at the Truman Library, Albright wasn’t representing the foundation at the panel.

  1. I expect better of the former Secretary of State. I am even more disappointed in the people if Highland’s Ranch CO if that really happened. Politico is not reliable.
