After being admitted to Shaarei Tzedek Hospital, on Rechov Bayit in Yerushalayim, last night after feeling unwell, physicians there have said that Maran Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv is suffering for pneumonia and they continue to monitor his health closely.
Rav Elyashiv had already been feeling ill during his nightly shiur, and he had instructed his grandson that he would be unable to meet with people following the shiur as he customarily does. Immediately following the shiur, he returned to his home.
Shimi Grossman, a volunteer with Zaka, told Ladaat.net that Rav Aryeh, a grandson of the posek hador, phoned him at five minutes before 9 p.m. last night to say that his grandfather was not feeling well. Rav Elyashiv told Shimi that he was feeling pain in his chest, and an ambulance was summoned immediately. Upon arrival at Shaarei Tzedek Hospital, doctors performed a number of tests on Rav Elyashiv and concluded that he has a bout of pneumonia. They prescribed antibiotics, which were administered via intravenous.
Harav Elyashiv attended the Yahadus HaTorah rally (seen in the picture above) on Motzoei Shabbos at Tamir Hall in Yerushalayim, making a rare appearance in public outside of Meah Shearim where he resides.
All are asked to continue davening for Harav Yosef Shalom ben Chayah Musha.
