Maran Harav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv is still at Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim after being diagnosed with a case of pneumonia, as Matzav.com reported here. The posek hador, who is at least in his very high nineties, if not older, is still ill and all are asked to continue davening for his complete recovery. Gedolei Eretz Yisroel have either called or visited Rav Elyashiv over the past week. Harav Aharon Leib Shteinman calls on a regular basis to inquire about Rav Elyashiv’s welfare. Yesterday, the Gerer Rebbe called the hospital and imparted his wishes for a speedy recovery.
The Belzer Rebbe, who went to Shaarei Tzedek yesterday to visit his ailing mother there, wished to go to visit Rav Elyashiv as well. However, there have been strict orders that no one is permitted to enter Rav Elyashiv’s room, because every word that he utters takes tremendous strength out of him and weakens him. However, when Rav Elyashiv heard that the Belzer Rebbe was in the hospital and wished to see him, he instructed his aides to allow the Rebbe entry. The Rebbe wished Rav Elyashiv a bracha that he should experience a refuah sheleimah.
One of Harav Chaim Kanievsky’s sons, a grandson of Rav Elyashiv, also visited the hospital to covey wishes of refuah sheleimah from his father.
On Tuesday, Rav Elyashiv participated in the Knesset elections from the hospital and he has since expressed his satisfaction that the Left in Israel has been weakened based on final election results.
