levaya-barzilai[Video and photos below.] A levaya was held today in Meah Shearim for the kevorim removed from the grounds of Ashkelon’s Barzilai hospital earlier this week. Yidden at the levaya formally asked mechilah from the niftarim for the disturbance to the bones, which are slated to be reinterred soon.

Asra Kadisha has insisted that the bones are those of deceased Jews, while archaeologists say that the bones – dug up at the site of the hospital – were found near a pagan worship site and arer almost certainly not Jewish.

  2. I cannot believe I’m writing this. How in the world can frum Jews make a lveiah for bones which, while were not 100% sure the’re pagan, there is a good chance that those people were pagan. Even the Eidah doesn’t deny this.
Ovadah zara is one of the three aveiros one needs to die for rather than sin.
I agree there needed to be some for of protest (without the destruction of property), because we cannot have a double standard of fighting for Jewish graves to be left undisturbed in Earupean countries, while in Israel graves are something to be unearthed whenever pleased. But please, this is mixing up the yotzras. Hashem yerachim, have people really fallen to this extent when putting the ikkur before the tofel?
A mass lveiah for bones that have a good chance of having belonged to people who worshipped idols?

  3. #3 I am with you .
Where was the mass levaya for the purebreed Jewish bones that were transferred from Gush Katif and then reburied in Yerushalayim? Why didn’t the crowds show up for that heligica event?
