Lakewood is gearing up for a massive Free Tefillin program in the Westgate Shul’s main ballroom. 6 Expert Sofrim from Hanacha K’Halacha will be checking a host of issues that can and do go wrong with one’s Tefillin.

They will be checking and correcting the following and more:
Ree’buah (squareness) of both the Batim as well as the Tefiros (stitching), Placement and correctness of both Kesharim (knots), Placement of both Batim, Width and integrity of the Retzuos (straps), and more.

Do not assume you have no issues with your Tefillin. Have an expert inspect it for Free! You may be very surprised!
Tens of thousands have taken advantage of this project in the past ten years. Mitzvas Tefillin is a D’oraisah done 300 times annually, and Rambam writes that 8 mitzvos are associated with this almost daily precious mitzvah.  The Sofrim will be available before and after each Shacharis minyan. This unique program is endorsed by HaRav Shmuel Kamenetsky shlita, Rav Simcha Bunim Cohen shlita and many other Rabbonim including ybl’c Rav Yisroel Belsky ztz’l. Take Advantage! Free Service!
All are invited. To learn more about the program, email [email protected] or call 718-377-6735.

  1. I applaud the efforts expended to promote “Hanacha K’Halacha”.

However, I would venture to add another aspect of “Hanacha K’Halacha”, which I think needs to be emphasized. This is the requirement that the entire tefillin be placed in their proper location on the person. [On the bicep of the hand (Shulchan Aruch OC 27:1). On the head, where hair grows (or used to grow), and not the forehead (below the hairline) (OC27:9)].

Someone can own the most exquisite tefiilin, produced with the greatest hiddurim, and even have them refurbished by the team from “Hanacha K’Halacha”, however if he doesn’t wear them in the manner prescribed by halacha, then it’s as good as if he left them in the tefillin bag, and his bracha is a bracha levatala [Mishnah Berurah 27:33].

I look forward to “Hanacha K’Halacha” supplementing their presentation, by incorporating visual aids regarding the proper manner of wearing tefillin. This will create public awareness for a halacha that many people aren’t aware of.

Only by implementing these halachos can people be rest assured that they are being Mekayaim this almost daily mitzvah d’oraisah, lechatchila.
