Dear Matzav Inbox,
I can’t believe what I’m seeing these days. All this arguing about whether or not to vote in the WZO elections has completely drowned out what really matters: the bizayon haTorah, the disrespect being shown to certain gedolim. It’s honestly terrifying to watch. It’s like people are treating our gedolim the same way they talk about sports players, lehavdil elef havdalos. It’s like, “Oh, I like this one,” or “I don’t like that one,” but these are our gedolim!
No matter what you think about voting, whether you think it’s right or wrong, there is one thing that’s way worse than that — and that’s being mevazeh a Talmid Chacham. The Gemara says it straight: “Anyone who insults a Talmid Chacham, it is as if he is insulting the Shechinah.” You can’t get worse than that.
And I’ve seen it with my own eyes — people spewing hate, yes, hate, and venom toward others just because of what they hold or what they’re gedolim hold. The vitriol is enough to make someone faint. It’s crazy. And it’s not even just about whether you vote or not. People are treating each other like dirt, calling each other names. I’ve seen people yelling at each other and cursing at each other. It’s all l’sheim Shomayim of course.
“One who publicly humiliates a Talmid Chacham, it is as if he has spilled blood,” the Gemara says.
Look, I’m not here to give my opinion on the voting issue. I don’t have an opinion. Im a nothing. And that’s not my point. But what I will say is this: “Anyone who disgraces a Talmid Chacham will ultimately be punished by Shomayim.” We’re messing around with something way more serious than we realize, and it’s time to stop. We need to stop this madness before it gets worse.
“The honor of a Talmid Chacham is akin to the honor of the Torah itself” (Eruvin 63a).
Let that sink in.
Imagine that the people being spoken about have spent their entire lives doing nothing but learning, davening, busy with avodas Hashem and busy helping the klal and yochid. And we have the nerve to yell and scream about them and say that they don’t know what they’re talking about? It’s sickening.
Stop the hate. And remember what we’re really doing here. We’re stepping into Gehennom when we disrespect talmidei chachomim. I promise you that it’s not worth it and yes, we will absolutely burn for it.
Let’s get back on track and stop causing damage to the honor of Torah and our gedolim.
Sincerely,
Don’t Wanna Burn

Sorry but you’re off the mark. When is the last time you heard anybody comparing the gedolim to the sports players? To the contrary, I’ve never heard the sports players be ridiculed by these people, nor have I heard them degrade celebrities (jewish or non-jewish)!
And this is the point:
Your kids hear only that anybody that’s connected to torah, like learning, knows a bit about reasons behind at least certain halachot or minhagim, IS THE WORST PERSON, while at the same time, the people that never open a sefer are the ones with all the knowledge, such as which halacha has no source or which minhag is irrelevant, THEY NEVER GET BASHED, BUT RATHER THEIR HALACHIC RULINGS ARE REPEATED!
Rabosai, is this what you want your kids to hear? Is this what you want your kids to dream of achieving? This is what your kids see, and your excuses don’t fly. YOUR KIDS KNOW THIS!
Show your kids that learning is chashuv by you, and you will see how they shine and become gedolim themselves! I can tell you as a matter of fact, you will see so much nachat, and it won’t bother you the slightest that your son knows more than you! A kid that is a talmid chacham, is way more careful about kibbud av va’eim, as opposed to the non learned!
I wish us all only nachat!
Bmakom Chilul Hashem Ein Cholkin Kavod Lrav
interesting point, but i believe out of context.
Where there will be a chillul you arent cholek Kavod, thats why the gedolim are disagreeing with each other, even though theres an inherent lack of kavod in doing so.
But to turn that around and now say that it means you can bash the rav, THAT is not what your Memra means at ALL!
Furthermore, the whole discussion here is whether this is a chillul Hashem in the first place, hardly the meaning of the meimra you brought.
SO, while you have a good point, unfortunately its a mistake here.
The letter writer is absolutely right. I hope people reading this take the advice before even more damage is done.
This whole WZO yetzer hora was only put in front of us in order to distract the Olam from the real real tzara facing Klal Yisroel: the dreaded age-gap shidduch crisis! We must stay focused on the hoax 24/7 with no let up! Since it got so bad, that even the Aibishter is at a loss of what to do, we must step up to the plate and bail the Aibishter out.
Excellent letter.
Of course it should be pointed out that virtually of the vitriol, harrasment and hate was directed at those gedolim who have said to vote. It was and is a bizayon to these giants of Torah.
Just do what you think is right, or follow the Daas Torah you trust and keep quiet. I voted for eretz Hakodesh before the tumul and last time I also voted and there was no talk then as there is now. I don’t know why.
Thank you to the letter writer for standing up for kavod shemaim.
My heartfelt plea to matzav. Please don’t let your website be a platform for bizui talmid chacham. The same way you keep arayos off your website you should keep off this type of ain lo chelek leolam habah type of language which is poisoness for us to see. This should be an easy red line for a frum website, and there’s no makom to have the modox “everyone has the right to their own opinion and slander gedolim” attitude.
AI of America have jumped on the bandwagon using now this as a wedge issue to make themselves relevant
People who can’t or won’t offer solid, fact-based arguments often stoop to name-calling.
Agree with this letter 100%.
