Tisha B’Av is in essence a Holiday, hence we do not recite Tachanun. In Chazal it says, “Kara Alai Mo’ed.” It is our actions which changed the fate of this day beginning with the Meraglim and made it into the Tisha B’Av that we have known for thousands of years. But I am particularly disturbed by the undertones implied by the words, “Tragic Day.” Tragic things may have transpired over time on this day and in this period of time and we mourn over that. However, this is a day on which the geulah is born and is apropos to be heralded and so we place our hope in it that it should happen speedily in our days.
