New York Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Friday he is dropping out of the 2020 Democratic primary, ending his campaign after struggling to gain traction in the race. De Blasio’s polling hovered at the one percent mark.

“I feel like I contributed all I can to this primary election and it’s clearly not my time,”  the Democrat said during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “So I’m going to end my presidential campaign, continue my work as mayor of New York City and I’m going to keep speaking up for working people.”

De Blasio entered the presidential race in May, running as a proud progressive. But his campaign never caught fire: He qualified for the first two rounds of Democratic presidential debates but has failed to make the cut for the others.

President Trump mocked the mayor in a tweet Friday morning.

“Oh no, really big political news, perhaps the biggest story in years!” the president tweeted. “Part time Mayor of New York City, @BilldeBlasio, who was polling at a solid ZERO but had tremendous room for growth, has shocking dropped out of the Presidential race. NYC is devastated, he’s coming home!”

  1. Very foolish of the dork to drop out now. As you can see, the media is going after Biden and he will be forced out very shortly. Once Uncle Joe is forced out, Deblabla would have the best shot. That’s how Bill won the mayoral race. There were 1300 other candidates and he did the end around and won with only %35 of the vote. Then in the run-off, the media forced the centrist, Bill Thompson to step aside.

  2. He dropped out?? Was he ever in? In his opinion he was but he never scored any numbers of acclaim! So it’s more appropriate to say he dropped in on the presidential race!
