bloomberg1[Video below.] From near and far, the family of 8-year-old Leiby Kletzky is surrounded by a grieving community and some are coming from thousands of miles away to pay their respects.

A steady stream of mourners, including Mayor Michael Bloomberg and NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly, have all come to the Kletzky home hoping to console the young boy’s inconsolable, reports CBS 2′s Sean Hennessey.

“This is one of the most sad days in the city. It’s very tragic,” Bloomberg said. “I don’t know why God sometimes does some things but it is what it is.”

Yaakov German was in the room for the mayor and police commissioner’s 10-minute visit and said the heartbroken parents were told everything was done to find their son alive and that, “God should give them strength. The father talked back that God is giving them strength. They’re happy that they had the kid so many years.”

Bloomberg and Kelly were just the latest in an ever-growing group of people to come by and pay their respects. Men, women, a state senator and an NYPD inspector visited earlier Monday.

“Nobody talking. Nobody talk,” said family friend Jacob Vizl, who described the scene upstairs behind closed doors, the family clearly silent, grieving, crushed.

“They’re taking it very, very bad,” said Vizl.

“It’s quiet, somber,” said retired NYPD Sgt. Lawrence Bach.

Those making shiva calls said the visits are brief, no more than three minutes long. It is all the family can bear. The small apartment can only hold about 15 people at one time.

Bach, who spent 12 years on the beat in Borough Park, said he is haunted by Leiby’s father’s anguish.

“You can see the pain on the gentleman’s face. It’s hard to describe,” said Bach. “Only he can feel the pain. You know, it’s tough.”

Binyomin Ginsberg came all the way from Minneapolis, Minn.

“Such a tragedy,” said Ginsberg. “How could I not show support?”

Ginsberg had never met the Kletzkys until now.

“We’re supposed to comfort the mourners, but in a sense, everybody coming is a mourner,” said Ginsberg. “We’re all mourning this child.”

A community of mourners, thousands of them, are coming from far and wide because they simply couldn’t stay away.

A friend of Leiby Kletzky’s father said he counseled him to concentrate on continuing to raise his family and try to have joy together.

  1. “Bloomberg said. “I don’t know why God sometimes does some things but it is what it is.”

??? what you are, Mayor Bloomberg. You are supposedly very smart, but here you speak like a laughable fool, and an evil man. Who are you fooling with your blasphemous words? All of a sudden you became so religious, that you are blaming it on G-d Almighty?

Perhaps you were the cause of it Mayor, by your recent lobbying and giving much money, to legalize and legitimize what G-d called an abomination in his holy Torah? By doing so you strengthened the power of evil and, so to speak, told G-d, get out of here, we don’t want you in NYC. I’m sure you haven’t forgotten that your mother just passed away a few weeks ago.

You are playing with fire when you openly rebel against G-d. Repent before it is too late. All your money will not be able to save you from a terrible judgement for promoting the rebellion against G-d that is the toeiva (abomination) counterfeit ‘marriage’ legislation. You hurt yourself as well as the whole city and state. Your name will go down in infamy. For shame.

  2. FYI. Thank you for posting what I wanted to say! This Rasha should have been booooooo’d out of the Shiva house! We lost our sensitivity! 20 years ago, he would have been Muktza Machmas Mi-us. (Did you realize, 20 years ago, it was difficult to say the word that these people are called. It starts with the letter “g”. Today we can say that word with no reservation. G marriages. We became de-sensitized. We can vote for polititians that support g marriage. What a loss.

  3. He gave $100,000 out of his own pocket to lobby against traditional marriage. Did he give a nickel to help this devastated family?

  4. Mike took $100,000 out of his own pocket to lobby against traditional marriage. Did he give a nickel to this devastated family??????

  5. Excuse me FYI, you being a jew cannot speak about someone else so degarding and so public like that. You are sitting there bashing him about how he isn’t being a proper jew, but you are? Speaknig lashon hara like that? on the internet?!
