mccainSen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) today slammed President Barack Obama’s leadership on the crisis in Syria, asking how many more Syrians had die before the administration is spurred to intervene.

“How many more have to die before we take action?” McCain said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

“It’s shameful the total lack of leadership that the United States has displayed for the last 14 months,” he said.

“We need to show, first, leadership. The president of the United States should be speaking out for the people of Syria,” McCain said.

Syria’s president Bashar al-Assad – facing massive demonstrations against his regime – has ordered a crackdown that has reportedly led to thousands of deaths. The Obama administration has called on Assad to leave power, but resisted calls to arm the opposition or intervene militarily.

McCain called for the U.S. to reverse the policy against arming the Syrian rebels.

“It’s not a fair fight. Russian arms are pouring in, Iranians are on the ground,” McCain said. “We need to establish a sanctuary so that they can organize.”

  1. That’s just the point, Mr McCain: Russian arms are pouring in; the Iranians have or will very soon have nuclear capabilities. The US is trying not to start WWIII. And you’d do the same if you were in the White House. Or would you establish a sanctuary for Muslim terror organizations, and in the process set off a world war?
