Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham, acting as emissaries to Egypt, told the newly installed military leadership there that they must release political prisoners, like the jailed leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood.
“In a democracy you have to sit down and talk to each other,” Graham said. “It’s impossible to talk to somebody who’s in jail.”
Both senators were clear that they thought the military’s seizure of power was a coup and stressed that the next step needed to be a democratic process to decide new leadership. Read more at Politico.
