Sen. John McCain came out against Gina Haspel, President Trump’s nominee to be CIA director, on Wednesday after her confirmation hearing in the Senate.

In a break with President Trump, McCain urged his Senate colleagues to vote against Haspel, charging that “her refusal to acknowledge torture’s immorality is disqualifying.”

Haspel cannot afford to lose any additional Republican support. McCain is recovering from surgery related to his brain cancer in Arizona and was not expected to be present when the Senate votes on Haspel’s nomination. With McCain out and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) opposed, Haspel still needs support from at least one Democratic senator as well as every other Republican to be confirmed.

  1. Amazing! All this windbag cares about is protecting terrorists from being tortured. Senator McCain, you have outlived your usefulness. Just die already!!!

    • You’ll soon see mad anonymous McCain-fan bringing proof from radical left liberal Snopes – of all places – refuting your comment.

  2. Much as I respect Sen. McCain personally, he is absolutely wrong on Ms. Haspel. I also disagree with his stance on torture – of course it’s morally repugnant for anyone with a shred of decency, but *if* it can be effective in preventing the slaughter of innocents there’s justification for its use.

  3. So now McCain and the Democrats find themselves allied with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the “architect of 9/11”, who also doesn’t like Haspel. Good job, guys.

  4. How can the Democrats come out against a WOMAN?!!! Aren’t they the party of tolerance, totally free of discrimination? This is very troubling.
