Outgoing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday accused President Trump of provoking the violent crowd that stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
“The last time the Senate convened, we had just reclaimed the Capitol from violent criminals who tried to stop Congress from doing our duty. The mob was fed lies. They were provoked by the president and other powerful people,” McConnell said on the Senate floor, marking the first convening of the full Senate since the attack.
McConnell’s statements carry significance ahead of an anticipated Senate impeachment trial. The GOP leader has told colleagues he hasn’t yet decided how he would vote on a House-passed article of impeachment against Trump.

Provoked by Trump’s speech? Guess again. I heard and read the speech. He did not suggest in any way for people to act violently. Every crowd has its people looking to act inappropriately. As is the case many times there are outside agitators who have nothing to do with the intended purpose of the gathering. Did people break the law? No question and they will be held accountable but it’s a stretch to blame Trump for their behavior. By the same “logic” can Kamala be held accountable for the rioters over the summer since she contributed to bail for them. Where was McConnell during the riots over the summer? Pelosi? I forgot they were “peaceful demonstrations”. I recall watching a CNN reporter reporting on the “peaceful demonstrations” while the city was ablaze behind him. Both parties wanted Trump gone, he was an outsider who was disrupting the party. Both parties are two sides of the same coin. Neither cares about America or Americans. You will soon seen the disaster that awaits America under Biden and the radical Dems. You’ll soon wish Trump was in office.
