A McDonald’s in Alberta, Canada, apologized Wednesday for giving a pregnant mother cleaning solution instead of milk in her latte Sunday. The Globe and Mail reports that after taking her first sip of the latte, Sarah Douglas “knew something was wrong and pulled over to spit out the beverage.” When Douglas returned to the McDonald’s, an employee reportedly told her that “two cleaning lines were hooked up to the latte machine.”
A spokesperson for the franchise owner has since apologized, noting that “What happened is that the machine was being cleaned—as it is every morning. Unfortunately, the milk supply line was connected to the cleaning solution while this guest’s drink was made.” The spokesperson added that “We have taken immediate action to review the proper cleaning procedures with the team and have put additional signage up as an added reminder.” Alberta Health Services told The Globe and Mail that public health services are investigating the issue; McDonald’s claims an inspector already visited and will not seek further action.
