John McCain’s grieving daughter transformed a tribute to her demanding father into a thunderclap denunciation of his political rival, President Donald Trump.
“The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again, because America was always great,” Meghan McCain told about 3,000 mourners at Washington National Cathedral on Saturday morning, a raw mocking of Trump’s slogan that elicited an unusual burst of applause.
It was a defining moment over four days of public events to honor the senior senator from Arizona, Vietnam War hero and 2008 Republican presidential nominee, who for three years stood as Trump’s fiercest antagonist.
“We mourn the passing of American greatness, the real thing,” said Meghan McCain, 33. “Not the cheap rhetoric from men who will never come near the sacrifice he gave so willingly, nor the opportunistic appropriation of those who lived lives of comfort and privilege.”
She struggled at times to maintain her composure, fighting through tears.
“Dad, I love you, I always have. All that I am, all that I hope, all that I dream is grounded in what you taught me. You loved me and you showed me what love must be,” she said.

The America of McCain might have been great in his youth but it was destroyed by Obama.
And, according to Cuomo, America was never great and never will be great.

John Mccain is only considered a hero because he feuded with Trump. I like heroes that didn’t feud with Trump.
It was great until Obama was coronated by the media.
Boggles me how a 33 year old woman knows what a Great America is. He was a good father.

There were thousands of POW’s who didn’t have an admiral granddaddy pulling strings for an admiral daddy pulling strings for little Johnny, who was called a crown prince and as such was spared torture and mistreatment by the Vietcong, unlike regular American POW’s. As far as I’m aware McCain was denied medical care when first captured, which was quickly provided once the commies found out who little Johnny’s daddy was. Compare that to thousands of American prisoners of war who were not just denied care, but were actively tortured. And they didn’t parade their POW status for their own maciavelian pursuit of power. Besides, as horrible as being captured in a war might be, it doesn’t automatically make one a military hero, no matter how sympathetic we may feel. A definition of a military hero is someone who goes all out to either overwhelm a lot of enemy or save a lot of friendly. Actually, according to this definition, McCain might have been a military hero for his role in Forrestal fire – Vietcong’s military hero that is. And yeah, I know all about McCain being exonerated – by an investigation led by his father’s cronies. Reminiscent of Hillary’s exoneration.
