moshe-gafniIn response to a letter from MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni, Mekorot CEO Ido Rosilio announced that the Yerushalayim Corridor and Bnei Brak would be supplied with well water, while Haifa would be supplied with well water and reservoir water. Rabbi Gafni’s letter, sent several weeks ago, described the problem involved in using water supplied by the National Carrier during Pesach due to very real concerns that this water contains chometz since it is kept exposed. He asked that tap water be switched to well water sources starting three days before Pesach begins.

“Regarding your letter and after examining the possibilities and limitations of the national water supply system,” Rosilio wrote in reply, “the following plan has been proposed: The area of the Yerushalayim  Corridor and the City of Yerushalayim  will receive only well water throughout the chag. The same applies to the City of Bnei Brak. The City of Haifa will be supplied with reservoir water and well water throughout the course of the chag.”

Rabbi Gafni was pleased with the response, but noted that well water should also be arranged for other cities in the country, and that Haifa should be supplied with only well water during Pesach.

  1. Harav Shlomo Zalman Aurbach ZT”L (Halichos Shlomo 1:4:5) held that this was not a problem at all- “Even a mashehu has a shiur”. One need not be choshesh. Feel free to use tap water on Pesach, assuming yo kashered your sink.
