Reports from US media reveal that the alleged Israeli operation in Iran overnight Thursday-Friday exceeded the scale initially described by Tehran, extending beyond the involvement of several small drones. The strike purportedly encompassed the launch of three missiles by Israeli Air Force jets, targeting an air defense radar installation near Isfahan, a crucial component of the defense network shielding the nearby Natanz nuclear site.

As per ABC’s initial report, quoting a US official, the missiles were deployed from outside Iranian airspace, characterizing the strike as “very limited” in scope. Although the radar site was reportedly neutralized, a comprehensive assessment of the operation’s outcomes was pending at the time of the report.

Notably, the ABC report did not specify whether the missile strikes were conducted in addition to the drone activity acknowledged by Iran. A subsequent report by The New York Times reinforced the notion that Israeli aircraft indeed launched the missiles, suggesting that the strike involved more sophisticated weaponry than initially disclosed.

The specifics regarding the missile types, launch origins, interception outcomes, and impact zones remained murky, underscoring the ongoing opacity surrounding the incident. Earlier assertions by Iran of involvement by three small drones were conspicuously devoid of any reference to missile activity or resultant damages.

Iranian authorities claimed that air defenses engaged incoming threats at a prominent air base in Isfahan, historically housing Iran’s inventory of American-made F-14 Tomcats procured prior to the 1979 revolution.

Citing insights from “senior US military sources,” Fox News delineated the primary target of the strike as a military installation in Isfahan, distinct from the heavily fortified nuclear complexes situated approximately 100 kilometers to the north. The sources highlighted the precision of the Israeli strikes, emphasizing the apparent inadequacy of Iran’s Russian-built air defense apparatus.

The strike purportedly aimed at neutralizing air defense assets safeguarding the proximate nuclear installations, signaling Israel’s intent to project its capacity to exert influence even at distant points within Iran’s territorial expanse.

Despite the absence of official confirmation, satellite imagery reviewed by The Times of Israel illustrated discernible damage to the radar infrastructure near Isfahan Airport. However, publication of this imagery was pending approval, adhering to the policies of the agency responsible for its capture.

Additional synthetic aperture radar satellite scans conducted on Friday provided further corroboration of the targeted nature of the strike, underscoring the strategic precision employed in the operation.
