In an editorial titled Israel is Courting Disaster published in the New York Times, the former New York mayor warned of the political and economic repercussions of Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu’s legislation drive to overhaul the judicial system.

Bloomberg is considered one of Israel’s fervent supporters in the American Democratic Party and has donated millions of dollars to various organizations and causes in Israel.

“I have never gotten involved in Israel’s domestic politics, but my deep respect for its people and concern for its future has led me to speak out against the government’s plan to effectively abolish the independence of its judiciary,” Bloomberg wrote, according to Ynet.

Bloomberg added, “Under the new coalition’s proposal, a simple majority of the Knesset could overrule the nation’s Supreme Court and run roughshod over individual rights, including on matters such as speech and press freedoms, equal rights for minorities and voting rights. The Knesset could even go as far as to declare that the laws it passes are unreviewable by the judiciary, a move that calls to mind Richard Nixon’s infamous phrase “When the president does it, that means that it is not illegal.” Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu’s government is courting disaster by trying to claim that same power, imperiling Israel’s alliances around the world, its security in the region, its economy at home and the very democracy upon which the country was built.”

“…the extraordinary rise in Israel’s economic standing over the last generation may be Mr. Netanyahu’s greatest achievement. It’s fair to say that no prime minister has done more to transform its economy into a global powerhouse. Yet unless he changes course, Mr. Netanyahu risks throwing all that progress — and his own hard-earned legacy — away. The economic damage could make the cost being paid by the United Kingdom for Brexit look like bubkes.”

  1. Iron Mike is an idiot. An ignoramus hypocrite par excellence. An apostate. An older single man with billions of dollars in his portfolio. Never gave a penny to bnei Torah. Never gave a penny to a real Yeshiva. A misrable wretch.

  2. Mike – Mordechai is misdirected and sadly misinformed period. He speaks
And writes in superlatives and in matters he has little knowledge of.
Had he really thought about what he is staying for all the world to read –
He would support their effort to support the “democracy “ of the state of Israel and not the Judicial “tyranny” that’s been in place for along time.
No less a giant of Judicial power was Mr. Anthony Scalia.
Who famously commented… loosely when I compare the American SC with Israel’s – I realize we have little to worry about. Their system needs an overhaul.. end of (quoted) his comment.
Me. Bloomberg – a great financier should educate himself before mouthing
The Jewish Reform and anti Torah elements in America and their reps in Israel

    • You mean, like when Bl$$mberg ILLEGALLY took a 3rd term for himself?! The wicked evil toaivanik, Christine Quinn, blocked any referendum on the illegal move.

  3. Bloomberg is worried abut democracy? Did anyone forget him saying that the Chinese Communist Party was ecologically friendly, democratically accountable, and invulnerable to the threat of revolution?

When repeatedly asked during that interview that Xi Jinping isn’t elected by anyone Bloomberg answered among other things “No government survives without the will of the majority of its people.” So he doesn’t have t worry abut Israelis democracy

  4. Hut ehr gezugt …,
    Like who asked him?
One of the worst mayors NYC ever had
Now he wants to tell Israel what to do?
C’mon. Get a life Mike before it’s too late

  5. BloomingIdiotberg is a moron. He has no idea what he’s talking about. Of course as a leftist it concerns him but in truth if he had any real and legitimate idea of what the current situation is in Israel and what netanyahu wants to do, he would praise it to the hilt. In fact netanyahu wants to make it more along the lines of the United States .

I guess the blooming idiot doesn’t know that in Israel if the attorney general or the judge doesn’t like an elected official, he could just prosecute. There’s so much illegal at worst, and questionable at best, prosecution that takes place there which is what forces politicians to cop pleas.

The judicial branch, the attorney General and the court has far too much power in the state of Israel. What he’s trying to do is make it more in line with co equal branches of government.

Of course that’s something mayor BloomingIdiotBerg doesn’t understand.

  6. How come so many frum magazines treated Mike B as some Superman while he was mayor? And were then excited when he ran for prez?
    Are they still such fools?

    • I don’t remember any frum magazines treating Bloomberg as some Superman while he was mayor or being excited when he ran for. And that is the type of thing that I would remember

    • There was never any enthusiastic frum support for Bloomberg. And outside of the modern orthodox blog world he was absolutely despised after the metitza b’pe issue
