An emotional scene unfolded tonight at the Skopps bungalow colony in Fallsburg, NY as residents gathered in song and dance to welcome back a young boy who miraculously survived a near-drowning incident on Erev Shabbos.
The frightening incident took place Friday around noon.
Menachem Tessler of Tessler Catering, who arrived with his family at the Skopps colony, had reached out earlier in the week to a bungalow owner, requesting permission to stay in a unit that had already been winterized for the season. The owner kindly agreed, allowing the family to settle in. Shortly after their arrival, the Tessler family headed to the pool area, where Menachem’s son suddenly noticed the horrifying sight — a young boy lying motionless at the bottom of the pool. The child had removed his puddle jumper and silently slipped beneath the water’s surface without anyone realizing it.
Acting instantly, Menachem’s son jumped into the pool and pulled the boy out, but it became immediately clear that the situation was dire. The child had gone into full cardiac arrest.
In a moment of incredible Hashgacha Pratis, an EMT who had completed his training just a few months ago happened to be nearby at the pool. Though newly certified, he had already faced emergencies before and, once again, sprang into action. He immediately began performing lifesaving CPR on the boy, working tirelessly as others quickly called Hatzolah.
Within moments, Hatzolah members arrived and joined the effort. After tense and desperate attempts to revive him, the boy’s pulse finally returned and he was taken to the hospital.
Tonight, the entire Skopps community came together to celebrate the boy’s miraculous recovery. Residents gathered in the center of the colony, dancing and singing in joyous gratitude to Hashem. Tears flowed freely as families embraced, overwhelmed by the realization of how close they had come to catastrophe and how profoundly they had witnessed Hashem’s kindness.
One resident summed up the mood simply: “Tonight we didn’t just dance because a boy came home. We danced because we saw Hashem’s hand openly.”
