Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos has given only a tiny fraction of his $160 billion fortune to philanthropic causes, falling far behind fellow billionaires such as Bill and Melinda Gates and former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, public records show.

Although Bezos, 55, and his estranged wife MacKenzie recently pledged $2 billion to a new charitable initiative, their previous giving amounts to a total of just over $145 million or .0906 percent — far less than one percent — of their net worth. Out of $100,000, that would be like spending $90.06 on charity.

“The record of both Amazon and Jeff Bezos reveals that they are takers, not givers,” said Queens City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer, whose district includes Long Island City, where Amazon plans to set up a corporate headquarters. “When they make promises of how generous they will be, I look at what they have done in the past to know what the truth really is.”

  1. Bezos didn’t give his money to charity. Whatever he gave was “other people’s” monies.

Anyone that was /is a “seller” thru Amazon and tries to get his/her money back from the account can NOT get it back because Bezos freezes the accounts and “uses” this money as his own.

Amazon sellers distributors – PLEASE SPEAK UP if you were burned.

    • Maybe not? Bezos/Amazon is well documented to abuse their employees. Amazon is known to be a very abusive work environment. No one becomes a multi billionaire without stepping on others. Bozo, being a typical classic elitist, steps out of his ivory tower every now and then and commands the lowly peasants to give to others charity and end climate change. Then he flies in his ozone killing private jet off to some rogue country to enjoy his privacy. He gives nothing. He is a TAKER. No need to be milamed zchus on this mishgav zachor rasha.

  2. Whence comes this ugly habit of counting other people’s money, of delving into how they spend it, and how much of it they give to whom? Some folks are very charitable, others – miserly. Unless a Matzav reader is about to do business with Bezos himself, this information is simply irrelevant.
How much does his house cost? How many yachts does he own? What does he spend on his shoes? Did he help his brother-in-law to pay off his student loans? Who cares, and why?

    • It doesn’t. You’re right. But then HE can’t lecture others about giving and being tolerant. He can’t lecture us about womens reproductive rights (or lack thereof) or toeivah rights, etc… Just because HE made a few dollars, it doesn’t give him a right to impose his dumb imbecilic “feelings” and views.
