MK Moshe Roth from United Torah Judaism raised concerns about the lack of public transportation for the charedi communities in Tiveriah and Haifa in a query addressed to the Minister of Transportation.
Roth emphasized the crucial connection between the development of Jewish communities in the Galilee and the availability of efficient and reliable public transportation. He stated, “The government frequently highlights the importance of the Galilee’s Jewish identity, and we actively encourage people to settle in the region. Therefore, it is unacceptable to leave these families without adequate public transportation.” Roth further highlighted the significant number of charedi families residing in Tiberias and other communities in Haifa, such as the Sanzer community.
According to Roth, the current public transportation system does not provide even the minimum required level of service to the charedi communities. For instance, the transportation lines connecting Tiveriah and the Chassidishe neighborhoods in Haifa to Kiryat Sanz in Netanya only operate once a week, specifically on Motzoei Shabbos.
Roth questioned how people could commute to their workplaces without proper transportation options. He expressed concern about the difficulties faced by young families who settle in the Galilee, as they are unable to maintain regular contact with their families, commute to work, or access necessary healthcare services at the charedi medical center in Kiryat Sanz. He deemed it negligent to establish communities without providing adequate means of transportation for their residents.
In response, Deputy Minister of Transportation MK Uri Maklev acknowledged the issue and assured that efforts would be made to improve the quality of public transportation for the charedi communities in Tiveriah and Haifa.
