Monsey: Over 50,000 Still Without Power

rt-59-monseyMonsey, NY – Orange and Rockland utility company has restored service to 100,000 of the 240,000 customers who lost service as a result of the widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy.

About 140,000 customers remain without service.  Most of those customers should have their electricity back on by the end of next week with the final restoration occurring through the week after that.

Currently, more than 1,000 O&R employees and over 1,200 contractors are working to restore power.

In Rockland county, some 52,700 customer are still without power. In Orange County, the number is 35,400, and in Passaic County it is 9,800.

According to O&R,240,000 of its 300,000 customers lost electricity during Hurricane Sandy – the worst in hits history. 80% of O&R’s system was destroyed, despite being well prepared for the storm.

Most homes should have power back by next Shabbos, Parshas Chayei Sarah.
