The point is, onions & potatoes cost close to nothing. They are very cheap staple items. If you want to give a family charity in the form of food, give them something that cost a lot in the store, such as milk, eggs, bread, cottage cheese, string cheese, cream cheese, yogurts, fresh salad, orange juice, coffee, tea bags, etc etc… To give out huge boxes with cheap useless items that even an auni can afford, is a bizayon.
