It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Mr. Melvin (Mordechai) Kwassman z”l, who was killed in an accident early Friday morning on Interstate 380 south in Tobyhanna Township, near Scranton, in Pennsylvania.
Mr. Kwassman, a resident of Flatbush, Brooklyn, and a mispalel at Rav Yaakov Shulman’s shul, Cong. Talmud Torah, was 61. He was brought to kevurah yesterday in Queens, NY.
Mr. Kwassman was traveling in the southbound lane shortly after 3:30 a.m. when he slowed down or stopped due to a previous crash which had closed the right lane. As Mr. Kwassman slowed, his 1997 Geo Prizm was rear-ended by a tractor trailer.
20-year-old Eitan Kwassman, who was in the passenger seat, was flown to Community Medical Center and is listed in critical condition. All are asked to daven for Eitan ben Sarah.
The driver of the tractor trailer has been identified as a 37-year-old from Ontario, Canada. Police said the accident is still being investigated.
